Canada 2050: A Quirks & Quarks Climate Change Special

Province announces Climate Action Team

VICTORIA - British Columbia’s Climate Action Team (CAT) has some of the province’s best minds, including nine world leaders in the climate sciences, Premier Gordon Campbell announced today.  The CAT has 22 members and one special advisor and will be chaired by Cheryl Slusarchuk, president of the Premier’s Technology Council.  Details.

BC introduces climate action legislation

VICTORIA - British Columbia took a major step forward in the fight against global warming with the introduction of the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Targets Act, Premier Gordon Campbell and Environment Minister Barry Penner announced today.   Details.

New MFR Director of Climate Change and Forest Carbon

Effective November 5, 2007, a new work unit has been created within the Ministry of Forest and Range’s Forest Stewardship Division to provide focused strategic direction in the areas of climate change and forest carbon management. Dale Draper is the Acting Director of this group until the position has been filled. Staff from the Tree Improvement Branch (Kathy Hopkins and Shelley Webber) will be seconded into this work unit and, effective immediately, Brian Barber will be assuming the position of A/Director, Tree Improvement Branch.

IPCC releases Fourth Assessment Synthesis

On Saturday, the IPCC released it’s Fourth Assessment Synthesis report in Valencia, Spain. This report synthesizes the earlier three component reports released earlier this year. However, for the first time, the IPCC warned that "continued human-caused warming would lead to some impacts that are abrupt or irreversible."  His presentation is at:

February 2008 - Living with Climate Change:  Are There Limits to Adaptation?

Conference Announcement: The Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research and the University of Oslo, with the support of the Global Environmental Change and Human Security (GECHS) project, announce a two day international conference to be held on 7 and 8 of February 2008 at the Royal Geographical Society in London. The overall objective of this conference is to consider strategies for adapting to climate change, in particular to explore the potential barriers to adaptation that may limit the ability of societies to adapt to climate change and to identify opportunities for overcoming these barriers. The conference is aimed at researchers and practitioners with an interest in understanding how societies adapt to climate change.   View details.
