We are Moving on March 31, 2007
The Fraser-Fort George Museum would like to expand their facilities into the office space that McGregor currently occupies. We are currently working out the arrangements with the museum and the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George, with a projected timeframe of March 31st. Given the current uncertainty about the future direction of the Association (see next article), the Board explored options for temporary office space during the upcoming 3 month transition period. We appreciate and accepted and the offer from the Omineca Beetle Action Coalition (OBAC) to rent office space within their building, which is located down the street at 101-1968 Queensway Street, Prince George, BC. We look forward to sharing space with OBAC, a partner organization working towards many similar objectives. We will still be available at our current contact information (address, phone numbers, email, & website).
CFS Will Provide Bridge-Funding
The Model Forest Program is scheduled to wrap-up at the end of March, however the Canadian Forest Service has yet to announce a decision on the Forest Communities Program. If all goes as planned, this may occur in April, but CFS has decided to grant up to three months bridge-funding to keep the Model Forests across the country operational during the decision period. McGregor will continue with ongoing or newly approved projects and develop plans for finalizing the model forest components of our work.
Board of Directors Meeting
The Board of Directors met on March 7th to discuss the future direction of the Association. The McGregor Model Forest Association was created to deliver on Model Forest projects, so with this program coming to completion, the Board is now considering options for continuing on or developing strategic alliances with another organization. A subcommittee was formed at the meeting to investigate these options for proceeding into a new era.
Farewell to Cindy Buker
Please join us in congratulating Cindy, and bidding her a fond farewell as she has accepted the executive assistant position for the Omineca Beetle Action Coalition. Its with sadness that we say good bye, as she was exceptional in her role with McGregor, but we celebrate her new future and look forward to working in the same office again. This move is a great opportunity for Cindy to be part of a very relevant, high profile organization involved in building resilience in communities facing the mountain pine beetle epidemic.
